Why I walk:
I'm walking for my friend's son Lliam who is a HLHS Heart Warrior!
Lliam was born Nov 9 2012 with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). HLHS occurs when parts of the left side of the heart (mitral valve, left ventricle, aortic valve, and aorta) do not develop completely. The condition is present at birth (congenital).
He had his first open heart surgery at 5 days old, his second at 5 months old and his third just before he turned 3. He has also had 5 heart catheterization and surgery for a paralyzed diaphragm.
During his last open heart surgery there were many complications and he developed a condition called pulmonary vein stenosis which had made him ineligible to ever have a heart transplant.
Despite his poor prognosis he is doing well today and enjoying being a normal 8 year old boy
Donations to the AHA help heart warriors like Lliam!
