My mom has lived with atrial fibrillation (AFib) her entire life. It has been a lifelong struggle that has required constant awareness, education, and care. AFib is a common but serious heart rhythm condition that significantly increases the risk of stroke and other complications. For our family, heart health has never been theoretical. It has been part of everyday life for as long as I can remember.
Because of advances in research, treatment, and education, my mom continues to manage her condition. Those advances exist because organizations like the American Heart Association invest in research, raise awareness, and help people better understand their heart health before a crisis occurs.
This year, I walk to honor my mom and to support every individual and family living with heart disease or stroke. I also walk to help ensure that education and research continue so others can live longer, healthier lives.
