I started working for the American Heart Association in October of 2025. I don't know why I didn't know that heart disease is the number one killer of women. I also didn't know that 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Since 2020, my father-in-law Chuck, my mom Sheila, my husband Chris, and my mother-in-law Regina (Reg) have all experienced heart events. This said both my mom and mother-in-law ignored the signs of having a heart attack, which is what women typically do. Lucky for us they all eventually sought medical help and were able to have the procedures necessary to save their lives.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.
