Why I'm Walking: Honoring my dad, Richard (Dick) Sarns
“My why” for building my 2026 HeatWalk Team is to honor my dad, Richard (Dick) Sarns. He, along with my mom, Norma Sarns, early in their marriage, wrote down their life purpose to be entrepreneurs and founded both Sarns Inc. and NuStep, Inc. to help individuals with heart disease live happier and healthier lives. Both Ann Arbor-based companies gained international recognition and respect due to their commitment to the quality of their products along with their innovations. Sarns Inc. built the premiere Heart-Lung Machine used in open heart surgery and NuStep built the first and best in class recumbent cross trainer for individuals going through cardiac rehab, physical therapy and many other conditions. My dad and mom have lived full, active and productive lives. For decades, they have been very supportive of numerous not-for-profit community organizations. My brother, David, and I are grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments at this year’s Heart Walk on the morning of Saturday, May 16th at Hudson Mill’s Park.
