Shortly before my 43rd birthday I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. I was an avid runner and a mother of four boys ages 7-14 at the time. My diagnosis included an ASD (hole in my heart), Tricuspid Valve displacement and severe pulmonary hypertension. I needed open-heart surgery quickly. Over the course of 7 years, I endured 7 heart surgeries. By the grace of God, I have been very stable since May of 2020 all thanks to my great team of cardiologists and the wonderful work of the American Heart Association.
