Nolan Is Why!
During my 20 week ultrasound we learned that Nolan had multiple Congenital Heart Defects. His medical team identifield multiple holes in his heart comparing it to looking like swiss cheese, narrowing of his aorta and the left side of his heart was smaller than it should be. We were told in so many words that his heart did not want to work.
From there on he was followed very closely and when he was born we were prepared for immediate surgery with the NICU team on standby when he arrived. Much to our surprise Nolan had different plans.
Nolan spent 10 days in the NICU closely monitored and fighting through all of worst case sceneios that Scott and I were preparred for. During his NICU stay his aorta had opened to where the Cardiologist cleared him from immediate surgery and we were able to bring him home.
Nolan was monitored very closely and continued to prove his Cardiologist wrong as the holes continued to close on their own and his aorta continued to open.
Further down this journey during one of his Echocardiograms his Cardiologist identified a Sub-Aortic Ridge that we will continue to monitor as it is not obstructing the blood flow at this time along with one tiny hole that remains open.
Today Nolan has no physical restrictions and continues to enjoy his time on the soccer field! We hope our story can help another family who is in a similar situation to give them hope. In addition, donations made to the Heart Association will support research, CPR training and more!
