I bet that you and I have at least one thing in common; I believe that you and I each know someone who has benefitted the resources and research of the American Heart Association. Long ago I lost my father to heart disease. A few years later another person in my life was saved by a quadrople bypass and more recently a good friend was saved by a successful heart transplant. Each of these events occured right here in St. Louis. The gentlemen in the center of the photograph above is my friend who had a successful heart transplant. The photo was taken just after he walked his daugher down the isle on her wedding day. The gentlemen on the far right is a physician who has dedicated his career to cardiology. By the way, his first grant was obtained from the Longer Life Foundation, an endeavor funded by Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated for the past 30 years.
It is because of each of these events and many others that occur I have been supporting the efforts of the American Heart Association for over 17 years.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Please join me and help me again reach my goal today.
