Two years ago, my 1st cousin, Mike, had a massive heart attack at work. They were able to get his heart started again with the defibrillator in the ambulance, but he had been gone too long. They put him on life support in the ICU, but he never woke up. After 7 days, the took him off life support. He was only 55 years old, too young! Just 3 years older than I am now.
I am going to participate in the Heart Walk again this year in honor of the memory of Mike. I think most of us know someone in our lives that has been affected by heart disease or stroke, do you? The funds raised from this event will help support groundbreaking science and research to find lifesaving treatments and techniques. Along with programs providing education on CPR, the risks and signs of a heart attack or stroke, and the causes and importance of a healthy lifestyle. They even helped provide the Lexington Fire Department with the dummies they need to teach CPR to the public. which will help save lives. If Mike had gotten CPR right away, the outcome may have been different. If you agree that these things are important, have a heart and help me reach my goal to be a Heart Walk Hero!
