Our Journey with Kubi
My son, Kubi, was born with a congenital heart defect called bicuspid aortic stenosis. At just 12 years old, he faced open-heart surgery—the Ross procedure. It was terrifying, but thanks to an incredible team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the surgery was a success.
Today, Kubi is 17, living life with no restrictions, full of energy and hope. He’ll need another intervention someday, but for now, we choose faith over fear and gratitude over worry.
To everyone who donates blood—you are heroes. After surgery, blood donations gave my son strength when he was at his weakest. You may never see the miracle you create, but I promise you—it’s real.
We’re also forever thankful for the valve donation from a woman whose gift lives on through Kubi. Though I’ll never meet her, her legacy beats in my son’s heart every single day.
And to Dr. Tweddell, Kubi’s surgeon who passed away in 2022—thank you for giving my son life. RIP. You’ll always be in our hearts.
Life is precious. Hug your loved ones. And if you can, donate blood—you might just save someone’s world.
