I Walk because Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in the United States.
As a Physician Assistant student, I’ve cared for individuals recovering from heart attacks, living with heart failure, and learning how to navigate life after a new cardiac diagnosis. I've had the opportunity to care for patients with an LVAD or those who've undergone Heart Transplant. I've also cared for patients with the harsh reality that they aren't a candidate for either.
Heart Disease and Stroke has become a huge passion of mine through 4 of my rotations being dedicated to it [Cardiothoracic Surgery, Heart Failure, Neurocritical Care, Palliative Care]. I've seen the resilience in their recovery, and the way heart disease impacts not just one person, but entire families.
I walk to advocate for prevention and education.
I walk to support research that gives my future patients more time — and better quality time.
Participating in the Heart Walk for the American Heart Association is my way of standing beside my patients outside the hospital walls!
