2026 Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon & Walk
Jim's Lucky Hearts
We walk in honor of my dad, Jim Hanigan, a devoted husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by resilience, love, and an unmatched ability to lift others up.
Jim grew up in Southern California with his parents and four sisters before attending the University of Santa Barbara, where he was a proud member of SAE. He later moved to Ohio to continue his education at Miami University, earning his master's degree in business-and meeting the love of his life, Lisa.
At just 16 years old, Jim was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. While he beat cancer, the radiation treatments took a lasting toll on his heart. Over the years, Jim endured three heart attacks, the third leading to the placement of an LVAD in 2011. While on the transplant list, Jim received the gift of a new heart in 2013. Tragically, Jim passed away in January 2022 due to other health complications at the age of 55, with his wife and family by his side.
Above all else, Jim will be remembered for his deep dedication to his family-especially his wife, Lisa, and his two children, Kate and Jack. Jim loved to travel, spend quality time with family and friends, and always looked forward to staying in contact with his SAE brothers from college. He took unparalleled pride in his relationships with his family, extended family, and friends. Jim had a rare gift: he made people feel better simply by being around him. Known for his sarcastic wit, he continued cracking jokes even in his final days. He was a fantastic listener, gave thoughtful advice tailored to whoever needed it, and genuinely loved propping others up.
This walk honors Jim's incredible heart journey and the love, strength, and humor he shared so freely with everyone who knew him.
