2026 Metro Chicago Heart Walk
FAST and Furious
On September 5, 2021, at 11:42am, I had an ischemic stroke.
The graphic at the top of the page? That's me....riding my Peloton....until I wasn't (start of my stroke). I was 48 years old and in some of the best shape of my life. To say this was a shock is a huge understatement. I've had a lot of tests and I still don't have a solid reason as to why it happened. But I know this - I am very lucky. While the physical and mental recovery was difficult and frustrating at times (patience is still not my best quality), I'm alive. And I'm fortunate to not have any lingering deficits. Overall, I'm doing okay. Now I need to do everything that I can to make sure this doesn't happen again - to anyone.
In a heartbeat, you could be the difference.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don’t survive. Most of the time, it’s because no one nearby performed CPR. But together, we can change that.
Extraordinary things happen when people take action. A small step. A simple skill. A lifesaving moment. Heart Walk brings communities together to create health and hope for every heartbeat. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
Extraordinary starts with YOU. Join our team today or support by donating towards our fundraising goal.
