My life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Brugada syndrome and received an S-ICD on May 15, 2026. Thanks to the vigilant, proactive care team at OSU, my condition was caught early and before any life-threatening cardiac event could ever occur.
My initial genetic test came back negative for the currently known Brugada markers, but my team at OSU isn't stopping there. My soon-to-be 1 year old son will get routine EKG monitoring as we wait on future advancements and expanded genetic screening.
I walk today out of gratitude for my care team, to support the research that keeps families like mine safe, and to help make sure my son, and so many others, get to look forward to a healthy, protected future.
