My husband had a heart attack at 47 years old. His LAD was basically almost completely blocked.
He was able to have a heart cath to open the artery, he was very lucky. Since then we have found out that heart issues are prevelent in his family. Our children who were arouond 17. 15, and 6 had there cholesterol checked because of there dad's issues and the family history. My youngest and middle were fine, however my oldest, at 17 years old, had cholesterol levels that were extremely high, along with lipids etc. As a result he has been on medication since he was a teenager. He was not then or is not now a sedentary person. Not overweight, very active.
My hope is that this story will shed light on the fact that if there is a family history of cardiac issues, it's never too soon to check things out. My son could have gone years before his labs were checked. We won't know how much blockage could have built up during that time, but now we don't have that worry.
