Why I Walk — For Brian
My brother Brian died from a massive stroke on April 4, 2026.
On March 21, 2026, he said he felt dizzy and unwell. Something didn’t seem right, so he was sent to the ER. When I met him there, he was different — quiet in a way that scared me. Brian was always soft spoken, but he always answered. This time, he didn’t. After hours of testing, we were told he wasn’t having a stroke and was sent home. I trusted the doctors. I wish I hadn’t.
Only hours later, Brian was rushed back to the hospital. He had suffered a devastating stroke that affected the entire left side of his brain. By the time he reached a larger hospital, too much time had passed.
Brian would never speak,
He would never walk,
He would never care for himself again.
Two weeks later, he was gone.
I walk for Brian because he deserved more time. Brian was kind in quiet ways. He listened more than he spoke, showed up without being asked, and loved deeply without needing attention. He mattered — so much.
