Welcome! My name is Skylar, and Oliver is my sweet baby boy. During my pregnancy, I found out that Oliver was going to be born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). This means the lower left chamber of his heart is severely underdeveloped and too small. Normally, this chamber is known as the powerhouse that pumps oxygen-rich blood to the body.As a new mom, I was absolutely terrified of the unknown. But as I began researching and understanding his condition, I knew that Lurie Children's Hospital was exactly where we needed to be. The team at Lurie's worked closely with my fiance and me to swiftly prepare for Oliver's delivery and everything that came next.Because of his condition, Oliver will need three open-heart surgeries, and our strong little boy has already successfully completed his first one! :)Seeing so many families handle the struggles of a congenital heart condition made me want to get involved and truly contribute to the heart community. Growing up, I was involved in Relay for Life for cancer awareness, so a part of me has always cared deeply about giving back. Thank you so much for supporting our team and walking alongside us for our amazing Bubba!
