2026 Kalamazoo Heart Walk
Kristen's Crew
Kristen Aguirre is an award-winning journalist, stroke survivor, speaker and storyteller who knows firsthand that life can change in an instant.
In 2019, Kristen experienced a life-altering stroke that forced her to navigate a recovery she never expected. Suddenly, the skills, routines and independence she had taken for granted became things she had to relearn. Recovery challenged her physically, emotionally and professionally—and ultimately changed the way she sees herself and the world around her.
Rather than allowing her stroke to become the end of her story, Kristen has made it part of a much bigger one.
Today, she openly shares her experience of stroke recovery, reinvention and finding a new path forward after trauma. Her message is not simply about surviving a stroke—it is about learning how to live again, embrace uncertainty and navigate the unexpected plot twists life can bring.
As a journalist, Kristen brings a natural storyteller's perspective to her advocacy and speaking. She combines vulnerability, humor and hard-earned perspective to create conversations that are honest, relatable and hopeful.
Kristen's message is simple: There is life after stroke. There is life after trauma. And sometimes, the life you build afterward can look different—but still be meaningful, purposeful and full of possibility.
