We are back again at the AHA Heart Walk to kick off celebrating Kenzie's 6th Birthday! As you all know, last year Kenzie was selected by AHA as one of their Survivor Stories. This year, they will continue to share Kenzie's story on social media and in emails. We are so honored that AHA chose Kenzie to be one of their special stories. What's even better is this year's walk is ON her birthday!!!
Team Kisses For Kenzie was started in honor of our warrior, Kenzie Caitlyn. Kenzie was born on May 22, 2015 with multiple heart conditions, including Complete Heart Block (why she needs her permanent pacemaker), Cardiomyopathy (Heart Failure), and Atrial Septal Defect. She had her first of 3 heart surgeries when she was only hours old and weighed just over 4lbs. 3 months into her life, she also developed a severe form of Neonatal Lupus, which caused painful open wounds all over her body. At that time, Kenzie went into heart failure and completely stopped eating. She had a feeding tube from when she was 3 months old to last spring at 3 years old. Kenzie had another unexpected heart surgery when she was almost 2 years old. She has spent many many months in the hospital over the course of her 5 years of life. She will have another heart surgery soon. We cannot thank the entire Children's Hospital Staff for everything they have done to help Kenzie.
We are so thankful for the team of doctors, nurses and staff who have continually saved Kenzie's life! Join us in the AHA Heart Walk as part of team Kisses For Kenzie at Target Field! Since we know Kenzie will be back at Children's for more surgeries throughout her life, we plan to do the Twin Cities Heart Walk with AHA, along with the Walk For Amazing with Children's MN, every year that we can! We hope to grow our team year after year! It is the best way we know how to give back, so please join us! It is sure to be a fun day!
On the day of the event, please wear your "Kisses For Kenzie" t-shirt (if you have one) or red and blue (Congenital Heart Defect Awareness colors) to honor our favorite heart warrior!
P.S. - Can you believe she is turning SIX?! What an incredible journey her life has been!
Be a Heart Walk Hero with us and together we'll help save lives.
