My family has been participating in the heart walk for a handful of years now. In 2022, however, the Heart Walk gained an additional meaning for my family when my Dad woke up in the middle of the night with chest pain and decided to go to the emergency room. It was determined that he was having a "widowmaker" heart attack. This type of heart attack is named for it's extremely low survival rate. The speed at which my Dad acted after noticing the symptoms of his heart attack ultimately saved his life. No doubt, his ability to spot symptoms and act accordingly was based on his experience with the AHA.
Three months later, my whole family was together for the 2022 Heart Walk. Made possible by heart health education, and some incredible healthcare workers.
