Every year, I have a different focus for the Heart Walk.
Last year, I walked for my mom, who had a stroke in her mid-thirties. Thank goodness she is still with us today. (I honestly don't know what I would do without her.)
This year, I walk for my uncle who we lost this part year- Mike. Mike dealt with heart issues over the course of his life. Mike volunteered at the Detroit Heart Walk last year, handing out water to the walkers.
Mike was a pure-hearted volunteer. He was happy to stay in the background and just wanted to help. That was how he lived his life. He was not asking for credit- he continued to contribute where he could.
This year, I walk and fundraise with Mike in mind. I want to make a difference in the lives of others who have heart conditions. I want to make a contribution to research in the medical community so we can extend lives and give people more time with their beloved family members.
I walk for Mike. I walk for families to have more time with their loved ones.
