Fuyo (June) Hannibal, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday, January 2nd, 2023, at her home in Sylvania at Mayberry Village, an independent living community.  June was born in Japan on May 20, 1933, and met her husband, Wallace (Dean) at the air force base in Japan where she was working and he was stationed.

He brought her to the US and Pearle Fuller, his 8th grade teacher, “adopted” her and taught her everything, including how to speak, read, write, and cook American. She became our 3rd grandmother. They resided on a 600 acre farm near Bird Lake in Osseo, Michigan for over 50 years until June moved to Mayberry Village to be near her daughter for the last 10 years.

June’s passions in life were her family, her gardens, baking, and cards.  She had a green thumb and had almost 3 acres of beautiful vegetable and breathtaking flower gardens.  She was the most gracious host, always baking for others.  She loved playing games, especially cards, and loved her friends at Mayberry.  She never wanted to leave there.  Her greatest joy was her family, especially her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  June was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dean. She is survived by her daughter, Kaiko Zureich (John), and Son Tim. She had 6 grandchildren (Aaron, Cathy, Jackie, Jacob, Jacob, and Tara) and 5 Great Grandchildren.  Nothing made her happier than winning a card game and seeing the Grands and Greats.

Visitation services will be held at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main, Sylvania, OH, Friday, January 6th from 3:30-6:30.  She will then be brought to Hillsdale on Saturday, January 7th, to Hampton Funeral Home, 3380 W. Carleton Road, Hillsdale, MI for a visitation from 12-1 p.m., with a short service at 1 pm. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with Dean.  She will be greatly missed by all.  Donations in her honor may be made to the American Heart Association 2023 Northwest Ohio Heart Walk under her team name June Hannibal.
