I am lucky and grateful enough to serve as the 2020 Grand Rapids Heart Walk Chair through the West Michigan American Heart Association.
One of my best friends is also named Tony. If you were to meet and talk to Tony, he is one of the sweetest, kindest, humans you will ever meet. His heart is made of pure gold. He's always concerned about everyone else, all the time, loves quality time with people he loves, and is a HUGE sports fan (especially Detroit sports). :)
We met in 1st grade (if I remember correctly - I'd have to ask him. He has a memory of steel) and have been friends ever since. Born with his condition, he is the oldest survivor in history. I am honored to know him, and even more honored to remain his friend as we have grown up together.
I am walking for Tony. As part of my fundraising, I will be training for a half marathon that I will do on my own (not a part of an event, just the trails by my house), completely in Tony's honor. The Grand Rapids Heart Walk in September will serve as a celebratory event after I run my half marathon prior to the Walk date, and as I celebrate Tony.
From now until the 1/2 marathon run, every $10 donated to my page is worth 1 mile of training. When I run my mile(s) after your donation, you're going to get a shout out/post from me as just a part of my thank you to you for supporting me and supporting my run.
I will run because Tony can't. I will fundraise to protect Tony's heart of gold.
