Tina's story.......My future is Why!
In 2004, I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic heart valve thanks to my sister, Natalie, an echocardiographer. When she first got her job and wanted to practice with the equipment on some family members, she found it inadvertently. Living mostly asymptomatic, I never knew I had a congenital heart defect until she found it.
My aortic valve has two flaps instead of the usual three and although I currently live life without any significant symptoms, blockage or leaking, it is still possible for me to develop aortic valve stenosis (AVS). I will likely need an aortic valve replacement in my future. This is why I walk!
Thanks to routine heart monitoring and preventative healthcare, I continue to live a healthy, active life free of worry. I have participated in the Heart Walk every year since 2012 and was fortunate to be featured as a 2013 Heart Hero! I also served on the AHA’s Young Professional’s Board for 8 years to help advocate and raise funds for impactful research. Whether you can walk, donate, cheer or volunteer, I encourage you to get involved with the 2025 Heart Walk!
Please support ME by walking or giving a donation today!
