The Heart Walk is extremely meaningful to me and my family as I can graciously call myself a heart disease survivor!
On July 26, 2022, two weeks after giving birth to my son, I had a sudden onset of chest pain. It quickly radiated to my back, neck, and arms. Those symptoms were quickly followed by tingly fingers, shortness of breath, very high blood pressure, and palpatations. My husband loaded our three kids (ages 4.5, 3, and 2 weeks old) into our car and rushed me to the ER. The pain became so intense. I left the car teary-eyed as I wasn’t sure if I’d see my husband and kids again.
At the hospital, I was met with incredible care. Once a cardiac event was confirmed, I was taken by ambulance to another hospital and taken directly into surgery. The team of surgeons found I had 100% blockage in my left circumflex artery due to Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD), and a Medtronic stent was placed. Quick identification and intervention saved my life and prevented long-lasting heart damage. I’m forever indebted to my care team for saving my life.
