I walk because if it wasn’t for all these generous people who walk for this cause and raise money my life would be much different. If there wasn’t development within the medical field, particularly towards heart health and heart conditions I may not be here. I am running because less than a year ago I found out as a 22 year old young healthy man that I had a heart condition that needed surgery immediately to fix. I had to have open heart surgery to fix a condition that I had no idea I had until a yearly physical check up where my doctor heard a murmur. That doctor hearing that and sending me to have it checked, quite literally saved my life. Thanks to the time and effort put toward research and development of medical procedures I was able to see multiple doctors, specialists within the heart world and thanks to them I was able to get checked out. The cardiologist found that I had mitral valve regurgitation and my heart was enlarging due to it not being able to push blood through my body the way it should. The cardiologist went to talk to the surgeon immediately and I got in for a consultation and then surgery within a week. Going in for surgery I was a bit scared, when I woke up that day in recovery I was just happy to see my families faces and thankful for everyone in that room who took care of me that day. Thanks to multiple wonderful doctors and countless nurses who helped me so much on the road to recovery. Thanks to them I am here today to tell my story and hopefully help create an even better opportunity for growth and development which could save someone else’s life.
I plan on tracking my progress while training for this race to share my story.
