I walk because I know that with every step, I am helping to save lives.
We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. I'm tied to it personally.
A few years ago I had a cardiac arrest and heart attack while playing tennis. I was unresponsive for a couple of minutes, while Brian and Kathy (two people I didn't know) who were playing on the court next to me provided CPR. That probably kept me from serious long lasting damage. Brian learned CPR as a member of the Brighton Ski Patrol. Kathy was a school teacher.
Then a young lady working in the club brought down their AED, which Brian used on me. One zap and I regained consciousness. This definitely saved my life, but I was still having a heart attack.
I was rushed to the ER and had emergency surgery to clear a 100% blockage in my coronary artery. Two days later I had two more stents implanted. I made a miraculous recovery, and today I am taking good care of myself and am as healthy as ever.
