Hi! My name is Bentley. I am 4 years old! When I was 4 months old I quit breathing, my parents rushed me to the ER where they were delivered the shocking news my heart was enlarged. I was then transferred to STL for additional testing and diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Cardiomegaly. I was followed closely and treated with 8 oral heart medications. By age 2 my heart had worsened, I had developed what is called Mitral Valve Regurgitation causing the blood in my heart to go backwards and put me into heart failure. I was then listed for transplant. At age 3 I went for a routine heart checkup, except this time my ECHO showed something different! I was then taken in for an MRI to get better details of my heart, and it was confirmed that I had ALCAPA! Alcapa is Anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery. Did you know Alcapa is a rare congenital anomaly occurring in approximately 1 in 300,000 liveborn children? I am 1 in 300,000! June 28th 2024, I had open heart surgery! I had coronary reimplantation to repair the Alcapa, and Mitral annuloplasty to repair the Mitral Valve! It was a 9 and 1/2 hour surgery! I was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks during recovery. My heart is now functioning better, and squeezes properly! My blood flow has returned to normal and my heart has even came down a bit in size! I also got to come off of several heart medications, I am only on 3 now! Eventually my heart will become normal and I will get to come off all meds! I still have some recovering and progress to make but I will now get to live a long healthy life! I am so thankful! Thank you for listening to my story and helping save life's! \u2665\ufe0f
