Derek is Why! Join me in supporting the American Heart Association!
I am walking in honor of my son Derek. He had to have heart surgery when he was a week old. The surgery was needed because he had Transposition of the Great Arteries and a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), which is a hole between the lower two chambers of the heart. At 1:00 AM the morning after his heart surgery, Derek had to be taken back down to surgery because a blood clot had formed around his heart. It was the longest day of my life.
Thanks to the American Heart association and the wonderful doctors and nurses that cared for Derek, we still have him today. Derek has had some struggles, but for the most part is your typical boy. He has some restrictions on what he can do, but enjoys being outside, going to Iowa Wild hockey games and playing video games.
Derek is my why and I am trying to raise money and awareness for this great organization and cause. Thank you in advance for your support!
