I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Will you help me?
Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today.
Heart disease has always been looming in the background for our family, as my grandpa had it. Then in 2014 it really hit us hard when a widow maker took my dad from us while he was at work. He was only 56 years old and was about to retire and start the next chapter of his life.
During my second pregnancy in 2019, we got hit with another heart issue. This time it was my unborn daughter. The doctor discovered she had a ventricula septal defect. This scared me because of our family history. Despite all the reassurances that most of these VSDs close before birth, I was still nervous. Sure enough, my little girl was born with the VSD still open.
Now in 2023, I have started with the beginning stages of heart trouble in part due to family history but also having preeclampsia during pregnancy.
These are just 3 of the reasons I walk in the Heart Mini each year and work hard to bring awareness to heart disease and stroke. Hopefully one day soon, heart disease won't be the leading killer of women and a leading cause of death in men.
