Why We Walk
2020 Quad Cities Virtual Heart Walk
We joyfully walk with Ella on Ella's Closers Team in celebration of the fact that we have a healthy, active, happy 9-year old. In Ella's short life she has shown just how strong she is. When she was two months old, doctors detected a heart murmor. This lead us to a pediatric cardiologist. At this point we found out that Ella was born with holes in her heart (ASDs and VSDs). For the first two years of her life, she was constantly in and out of the cardiologist office. We were constantly tracking how much she was eating and how much weight she was gaining. We were hopeful that she might be able to get by without open-heart surgery. We were hoping that her holes would CLOSE on their own. However, shortly after she turned 2, it was determined that we were not going to be that lucky. So, when she was 2 years and 1 month, Ella had open-heart surgery to CLOSE the holes in her heart.
We could not be more happy with the outcome. She is now a thriving little girl! She is involved in dance, tumbling, and basketball. We cannot thank the American Heart Association enough for their constant effort to raise awareness and funds for congenital heart defects.
