TEAM TAYLOR - SEASON 6!!!
Team Taylor WHY:
- To raise awareness on the importance of knowing CPR and being prepared to use it.
- To raise money for the American Heart Association to help with research, training, and education to help save lives!
Flash back to September 2015.
Taylor had just turned 18, had just started school at the University of Cincinnati. Everything was going GREAT!!!
At 6:45PM that evening, through a very odd set of events, I was notified that I need to I needed to call Officer Martin from the UC police about Taylor. I spoke to the officer, and she said Taylor had collapsed while she was working out. When I asked if she was OK there was a slight pause….and the officer said the ambulance just took her and she did not have a heartbeat and was not breathing.
Taylor had just finished up a run on the treadmill. She has (or had) no heart issues, was healthy and athletic. For no reason at all she collapsed. Her heart stopped. The University of Cincinnati Rec Center workers implemented their first response program. They began rotating CPR and using the AED to try to get her heart started. This continued this for 13 minutes until the EMS arrived. They never gave up. Never stopped. This saved my sister.
On the way to the hospital, they shocked her two more times with the AED. They got her heart started.
I could detail every day for the next two weeks. From the first time she responded to us and we knew her brain was OK, trying to get her to breathe on her own without the ventilator and all her lung issues, to her getting a defibrillator put in. I remember every single scary detail and will for the rest of my life. It is so much more than just restarting the heart.
My personal PSA. If you do not know CPR, learn it. It does not take long. Pay attention in the class, feel confident…because you absolutely may need it to save a life.
This is why my family wants to help the American Heart Association.
