Why We Walk
2022 Metro Chicago Heart Walk
F.A.S.T. and Furious
On September 5, 2021 at 11:42am, I had an ischemic stroke. The graph at the top of this page? That's me, riding my Peloton, legs moving fast...until they weren't (start of my stroke). I was 48 years old and in some of the best shape of my life. To say this was a shock is a huge understatement. I've had a lot of tests, but I still don't have a solid reason as to why it happened. What I do know is that I'm lucky. The mental and physical recovery was difficult at times, but I'm alive. I am fortunate to have minimal deficits. And overall, I'm doing okay. Now I have to do everything I can to try and make sure that it doesn't happen again - to anyone.
We're a relentless force! Now imagine how much stronger we'll be working as a team!
Heart disease is still the no. 1 killer in our nation and stroke ranks no. 2 worldwide. You could do something to change that.
We are walking together - not only for our own health, but also for yours. And for the health of our parents, our children, and our grandchildren.
The Heart Walk is a time of celebration, joy, and inspiration. It's also an event where people work together to support one single goal - to create a world free of heart disease and stroke.
Be a heart hero. Be a relentless force. Be a part of an unstoppable team. Join us now and together we will help save lives.
