Just weeks after turning 16 years old, Nora was diagnosed with Influenza. Although it started with mild symptoms of cough and fevers she became increasingly sick and within two days she was admitted to the CVICU at Cincinnati Children's Hospital receiving life saving measures (Ventilation, ECMO & BP support). Due to the irreversible damage the virus had inflicted on her ventricles, Noras ONLY option for survival was a Heart Transplant. She received an Artificial Heart as a "bridge" until eligible for a transplant. During this time she remained in the CVICU hospitalized until she was eligible to be placed on The Heart Transplant list. Fortunately due to her having no previous health issues and her pre- Influenza condition, she was placed on the list rather quickly. Nora was blessed with a Donor Match within a few weeks and received a Heart Transplant on November 20, 2022. She is currently recovering at home- working very hard to regain her strength, stamina and endurance. We do this Walk for Nora, her donor and her donor's loved ones.
