We Walk to Save Lives!
2023 Central Ohio Heart Walk
Team Parker
Every year we support the Heart Walk in honor of our son, Parker. This year will be year 11 and we can't wait. Team Parker was started when Phil and I had no idea how to help out with a cause that is so near and dear to us.
Parker's journey is one that continues to evolve. He was born with congenital heart disease and had surgery at 9 days old to repair the coarctation of his aorta. He has other deformitites in his heart and every year undergoes testing to monitor his situation. We have been lucky to work with our amazing cardiologist and Nationwide Childrens to keep tabs on Parkers health and ensure that he gets the appropriate care as he continues to grow.
I will never forget the journey of finding out that our baby had heart issues, that he would require surgery and that this would be something that he would battle for his entire life. I remember the beeping in the NICU like it was yesterday. I remember seeing him post surgery attached to all those machines and tubes. Heart health is something that is not just a passion, but it is a necessity. Advancements need to continue to be made so that kids like Park get a chance to live a normal life!
Parker is now 12 years old and a spitfire. He is one of a kind. To know him is to love him. He is kind, funny and loyal. He loves hockey, golf, his friends and family. Every year when the cardiology appointment draws near, the anxiety kicks in. What if his heart keeps him from being able to do the things he loves, what if it keeps him from living a normal life?
This my friends is why we do this walk every year. There are not many things that I have control over when it comes to Parkers heart but I can help so that Parker and others have the access and tools that they need to give every kiddo a chance to live.
We would love to have you join Team Parker at the walk this year and would love your support to continue advancements to heart health. Cheers to Team Parker!!!
