We walk for Jack! ❤
Jack was born on 2/23/24 and went home a perfectly healthy newborn, or so we thought. Three weeks later our world was flipped upside down when Jack was found to have an undiagnosed congenital heart defect- coarctation of the aorta- and landed himself in the Cardiac ICU at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The next day he underwent successful surgery thanks to the incredibly talented surgeons Dr. Morales and Dr. Lehenbauer and the entire CT Surgery team. The next 5 days were spent in the CICU where the phenomenal, skilled, and dedicated staff took care of Jack (and his mom and dad!) like he was their own. After 2 more days in the Cardiac Stepdown unit, the amazing staff got Jack to the perfect spot to go home! After successful discharge, Jack continued to be loved and cared for by his cardiologist and the absolutely wonderful staff in the HI clinic. He had to have his arch ballooned several months after surgery, and thanks to the gifted Cardiac Cath team, Jack's arch is looking better than ever. We are now living the life we dreamed of when Jack first came home thanks to everyone's hard work and dedication!
We truly can not thank every single member of the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's who has taken care of our sweet boy enough. You all know how special and important the job we do is (plot twist- I'm Ashley, Jack's mom, and am a nurse in the CICU at Children's.. crazy, I know!). Now I know firsthand just how important. You all are amazing people, keep saving and changing lives of not just our heart babies but their parents as well ❤
While I have always had a special place in my heart for my heart babies, I now have a heart baby of my own and this year we walk for him ❤
For those joining our team, thank you! We can't wait to walk with you! Please sign up for the 5K heart walk which will occur on Sunday march 16th at 11am. There is also a link below to the team shirt if you would like to match our little heart warrior!
