I never thought I would be impacted by heart issues. I was a healthy kid who played lots of sports. In middle school, when getting a physical, I was told I had a heart murmur. But I was told this was extremely common and that for many, its something that goes unnoticed for people's entire lives and that it likely would not affect me until I was in my 40's or 50's. maybe later.

I got my anual checkups and over the years, this murmur turned into a leak in my aortic valve. This leak continued to get worse, although I was asymptomatic. Then finally, at 31 years old, I began experiencing frequent, random chest pain and tightness. There would be moments where I would be short of breath for no reason at all. I went to see my cardiologist who told me I needed open heart surgery.

My surgery took place at Christ Hospital on May 17th, 2023. My surgeon was able to repair the leak in my valve and ever since, I have felt healthier than ever.
