Meet Charlie Hansen, the inspiration behind Charlie's New Beat team. Born in April 2018 with a congenital heart defect known as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Charlie faced his first open-heart surgery within his first week of life. Despite major complications and heart tissue damage, Charlie slowly recovered and was discharged three weeks later. However, after just three weeks at home, Charlie's condition worsened, leading to his emergency airlift back to Seattle Children's Hospital. Diagnosed with heart failure, Charlie's only hope was a heart transplant, which he received in July 2018.
Charlie's journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Spending roughly nine months in the hospital recovering from the transplant and other complications, he was discharged with a trach and a vent. Over the years, Charlie has amazed everyone with his determination and strength, overcoming every obstacle in his path. Today, Charlie is thriving, having been decannulated and enjoying a healthy heart. He is now in first grade, keeping his family on their toes with his boundless energy and spirit.
Why We Are Fundraising: The Corridor Heart Walk 2025 is an opportunity for us to support and raise awareness for congenital heart defects and heart disease. By participating in this event, we aim to honor Charlie's incredible journey and resilience, while also contributing to vital research and support for other families facing similar challenges.
