As a Development Director at the American Heart Association, I see every day how heart disease and stroke touch lives. Not only has my own family been impacted, but I also have the honor of connecting with survivors and families across our community who share their powerful stories with me daily.
Thanks to donations like yours, I get to go out to companies across DFW to teach the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR with the goal of giving more people the confidence to act in a cardiac emergency. It?s critical work: 9 out of 10 people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital won?t survive, and one of the main reasons is that bystander CPR is rarely performed.
This mission is personal for me in so many ways. My stepdad is still here today because someone nearby knew CPR and didn?t hesitate to act. He suffered a widow maker heart attack right outside of an H-E-B grocery store. In those critical first moments, a bystander saw him collapse, recognized what was happening, and immediately began CPR.
That quick action and her courage to step in is the only reason he?s still with us today. We are so incredibly blessed that his angel was there in that moment. Most people don?t get that second chance.
Please consider donating to my Heart Walk fundraising page so I can lead by example, continue spreading awareness, and equip more people with the skills that truly save lives. Every dollar makes a difference.
