My Dad had a heart attack on August 31, with no common symptoms present.
Initial prognosis was a minor heart attack. After testing, analysis determined he experienced a major event.
On Thursday Sept 4 they implanted a modular Impella device to help his heart rest and heal to prepare for surgery. This required him to transfer to ICU as they are the staff trained to monitor. He was required to lay flat and not move which made for a very long weekend. On Monday Sept 8, as planned, they switched out the modular to Impella 5.5 to not only provide more support for the heart. The stent procedure on Sept 12 was successful, and the doctor is pleased with the progress so far. We're taking recovery one day at a time and continuing to monitor everything closely.
He has two amazing surgeons on his case and they are optimistic he will recover to enjoy a good quality of life. His heart is getting stronger and they are pleased with his positive progression.
The nursing staff is wonderful and continue to remind us that time is our friend.
David and I signed up for the Cleveland Heart Walk prior to this series of events. We will be walking for my Dad and all of those that have been impacted by heart disease.
