Heart disease has profoundly shaped my life since childhood. At just seven years old, I witnessed its devastating impact when my father suffered his first heart attack at 42. He bravely battled heart disease for two decades before passing away in 2010. Tragically, this condition also claimed the lives of most of his seven brothers in a short period, highlighting its pervasive threat within my family.
Now, as I approach the age my father was during his first attack, I am reminded of the critical importance of vigilance and proactive health measures. This deeply personal connection fuels my passion for the American Heart Association and its mission. As the leader of the Audit Team for this year’s Houston Heart Walk on October 25, I am committed to raising awareness about heart disease and supporting our community in combating this pervasive condition.
