My mom and my husband are the two most important people in my life.
What many of you may not know is that just six days after I started my new role at AHA, my mom suffered a stroke. In the last three years, she's also undergone two surgeries to clip brain aneurysms. All of this is potentially connected to high blood pressure - a condition I'm also at risk for due to family history.
And what even fewer people know is that my husband lives with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. There is no cure, but with research, education, and advocacy, there is hope.
These two incredible people - my mom and my husband - are why I walk to save lives.
