I was nineteen when my mom had her first stroke and then four more in the next week. The fifth one left her left side paralyzed and caused her speech to be impaired. Through years of hard work and physical therapy she was able to get her left side back to 95% and almost all of her speech. She continued to battle heart disease and had a massive heart attack at 58 which left her with a stint and a long recovery period.
My mom always ate healthily, didn’t smoke or drink, was active and fit, so I couldn’t understand why she had heart disease. As time went on, we learned her condition was hereditary. Knowing this has helped her children and grandchildren educate themselves on heart disease, have regular check-ups, and early detection...all life saving meausures!
Without the trained professionals that helped my mom, I wouldn't have gotten so many wonderful years with her. She definitely was a fighter and a survivor. Never letting any of this get her down my mom continued to live a great life full of love and passion for anyone that was ill. Being a survivor herself, she spent the last sixteen years of her life taking care of friends and family members that were ill.
