I have been working for the American Heart Association since 2007 and its lifesaving mission, which resonated with my life's purpose and calling, has made me commit 19 years (and counting) of my life helping support its operations here in the US, and around the globe. In August 2016, the mission of the AHA hit closer to home, when during his annual routine medical check up, the doctors found out that my husband John has had a heart attack, and he did not even know it. He thought it was normal to have shortness of breath when climbing stairs and doing strenuous activities. The ecocardiogram test revealed that he actually had blockages in four of his major arteries, with one of them 100% blocked. His Cardiologist immediately scheduled him for two stent procedures (one per week, with each session lasting for almost 4 hours) to address all the blockages. Thank God for American Heart Association's research and breakthroughs which made this all possible. 10 years and 3 more heart attacks later, today my husband is a living testament of God's goodness and power, and of the miracle that science and research can do to help save and sustain a life.
Right now, someone you love may be in danger of a heart attack or stroke. Our company the American Heart Association fights to find new treatments to save lives, and to become a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.
