I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives. Also, I am a survivor. Your donation will fund groundbreaking research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives...like me.
I am 8 years old and was born with a heart defect (double outlet right ventricle - DORV). My first open heart surgery was at 14-week old. I had a few cardiac catheterization procedures throuhgout the years. When I was 6 yo, I suffered a stroke after a cath lab procedure (that's one of the risks). Luckily, only my speech was affected and minor impact on my fine motor skills; recovered in a short few months. I will need another open heart surgery in couple years according to my cardiogist.
My imperfect heart doesn't stop me from playing baseball and football, and running track. I have been on the baseball summer all-star teams for 2 consecutive years. I start tackle football in August when I start 3rd grade. Track is a new sport for me and I love the 50M and 100M dash events. As long as my heart can handle my active body, I will continue.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today.
