I Walk for Hearts in Bloom – Will You Support Me?
As a proud member of the SucSEED Garden Club and someone who leads outreach for food equity, this year’s American Heart Association Heart Walk means more to me than ever.
My dad lived with heart disease, high cholesterol, and diabetes for years, and he was also a smoker. It was a combination of things that ultimately took his life in 2018. I watched him fight it with everything he had, and I know firsthand how much prevention, awareness, and timely care matter, because I also know what it looks like when the odds don’t go your way.
Did you know 9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside a hospital don’t survive? In most of those cases, bystander CPR wasn’t performed. That is something we can change.
Cardiac arrest doesn’t wait for a good time. It happens at work, at home, in our neighborhoods. Every dollar raised helps train more people in lifesaving CPR, funds research, and supports programs that promote heart healthy living.
Through our garden club, we’re growing fresh produce that supports heart health and helps address food insecurity, because prevention starts with what we plant, what we eat, and how we care for one another.
I’m walking to honor my dad and to help someone else’s story end differently than his did.
Will you help me reach my goal by donating $100 (or whatever you’re able to give)? Together we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
Thank you for your support
