Heart disease isn’t just a statistic to me—it is deeply personal.
At just seven years old, my life changed when my father suffered his first heart attack at age 42. He fought courageously for two decades before passing away in 2010. In a heartbreaking span of years, the exact same disease also claimed the lives of most of his seven brothers.
That generational toll was painful enough, but today, heart disease isn't just a memory of the past. Lately, I've watched friends get diagnosed and carry this burden in their prime. It is a sobering reminder that heart disease does not wait, and no one is immune.
Now, standing at the very age my father was when his battle began, I am reminded that proactive health, vigilance, and early detection are our strongest defenses. Leading our KPMG Houston Heart Walk team is my way of taking action and breaking this cycle.
