I walk in memory of my brother Brian.
Brian Smart was the youngest of 7 children - smart and wickedly funny, famous for delivering the most unexpected and outlandish one-liners leaving everyone else belly laughing. Brian was a huge sports fan - especially Philadelphia sports - which led him to his career as an athletic trainer at Upper Darby High School. After recently turning 25, Brian registered for the 2019 Broad Street Run. Tragically, he collapsed as he approached the finish line from cardiac failure, and passed away at University of Pennsylvania Hospital not long after.
Today, we keep Brian's memory alive through a foundation we started in his name (Brian Smart Foundation), as well as working with Philadelphia's chapters of Gift of Life and the American Heart Association.
