This year's Heart Walk is especially meaningful to me and my family.
In June, my husband suffered a heart attack. Just two months later, one of our closest friends survived a cardiac arrest. These frightening events were a powerful reminder of how suddenly heart disease can impact the people we love.
Sadly, this isn't the first time heart disease has touched my life. Twenty-seven years ago, I lost my mother to a heart attack. While so much has changed since then, heart disease remains the leading cause of death, and too many families still experience the heartbreak and fear that comes with it.
That's why I am supporting the American Heart Association Heart Walk.
Nine out of ten people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital do not survive, often because CPR is not started immediately. Through research, education, CPR training, and community outreach, the American Heart Association is helping save lives and give families more precious time together.
Every step walked and every dollar donated helps create healthier futures and more lifesaving moments.
For me, this cause is personal. I walk in honor of my mother, in gratitude for my husband's recovery, and in celebration of our dear friend who was given a second chance.
Extraordinary starts with YOU.
Please consider supporting Team Texas Hearts, Enlyte Strong and helping me reach my fundraising goal. Together, we can make a difference for every heartbeat.
