In a heartbeat, you could be the difference.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital don’t survive. Most of the time, it’s because no one nearby performed CPR. But together, we can change that.
Extraordinary things happen when people take action. A small step. A simple skill. A lifesaving moment. Heart Walk brings communities together to create health and hope for every heartbeat. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
In 2024, I received a phone call that no child ever wants to get.
My dad's heart had stopped.
In those terrifying moments, my stepmom stepped in without hesitation and performed CPR until help arrived. Her quick actions gave my dad a chance to keep fighting.
What followed were some of the hardest months our family has ever faced. My dad spent nearly two months on life support and underwent a major cardiac procedure. There were moments of uncertainty, fear, and countless prayers.
Through the skill and dedication of his healthcare team, the love and support of family and friends, and by God's grace, my dad survived.
Today, he is healthy, thriving, and enjoying life.
That experience changed me. It reminded me how quickly life can change and how important heart health awareness, education, research, and emergency response training truly are.
This is my "why" for supporting the 2026 San Antonio Heart & Stroke Walk. Every family deserves more birthdays, more memories, and more time with the people they love.
