My Mom, Peggy, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2006. A few days in the hospital proved to be a wakeup call for our family. In 2007, we joined the NWA Heart Walk together and walked every year. My Mom spent the next four years changing her lifestyle. She changed her diet, bought a treadmill, and walked on it every day for an hour. She lost weight and kept it off. She looked and felt amazing. But on May 27, 2009, I received the most devastating phone call of my life. My Mom was in the ER, while a room full of physicians and nurses fought for her life. I wish I could say my story was a happy one, but it’s not. They lost. She lost. I lost. My Mom suffered a fatal heart attack at the young age of 58. Raising money for the NWA Heart Walk has become a part of the healing process for me.
